Brotherly Love

| February 13, 2015 | Parties National

Every year at its Gourmet Dinner, Big Brothers Big Sisters of O.C. presents its Joel K. Rubenstein Award to an individual for his or her dedication to the organization. And on the occasion of the fete’s 50th birthday, Newport’s Rob Friedman landed the honor—but it’s no wonder why. The chairman of has served on the nonprofit’s board for 25 years and is donating $750,000 for a new building that will allow it to expand its services. He’s also the principal funder of the Big recruitment initiative, which seeks to find male volunteers to aid at-risk youth. The best part? He’s just one of the many locals who support the charity. The 450 givers who gathered at the Balboa Bay Resort for the black-tie affair, for example, raised upward of $900,000. A big deal, indeed. –Photos by Fotograafe Photo Studio
