Best of O.C.: Health & Beauty

The Editors | January 5, 2017 | Feature Features

It's the start of a new year, and foremost on our minds is enjoying all that Orange County has to offer—arts and culture worthy of standing ovations, style that's always on point, health and beauty so we feel and look our best, design and realty for true bon vivants, and food and drink that are as tempting as ever. It's all right here. Happy 2017, indeed!

On her 13th birthday, Megan Kiefer’s mom gifted her a full day of beauty and pampering. It was then—sitting pretty with her naturally blond hair cut and styled, a perfect mani-pedi and freshly waxed brows—that Kiefer realized she wanted to become a hairstylist. Her mane is now a mix of hues—sometimes red, sometimes purple—and her uniform includes a rotation of rocker tees and tulle skirts paired with sneakers, or leather pants and a sweater that’s more crop than top. And she stays ahead of the styling trends by learning from the best in the business. (She says celebrity stylists Tracey Cunningham and Harry Josh have taught her invaluable lessons that she uses daily.) “I’m more of a trendsetter than a follower,” says Kiefer. “Learning tricks one-on-one keeps me inspired to bring my clients my A game.” A testament to her talent: Fashion influencer Elyse Walker tapped Kiefer to open the first in-store salon in her new, glam eponymous 12,000-square-foot boutique in Lido Marina Village. Kiefer, naturally, obliged, locking in the deal as Walker’s salon director. And it makes sense, really. “Hair follows fashion, and fashion changes every day,” notes Kiefer. “Elyse couldn’t have created a more perfect situation for myself and my clients with The Salon at Elyse Walker.” Sharing her talent in an atmosphere brimming with inspiration—which can be found in every corner, from the artwork and evening gowns to the perfectly styled mannequins surrounding her station—Kiefer is driven to create looks and colors for clients that look lived in and natural, with a unique and edgy feel, befitting the Elyse Walker brand. The Salon at Elyse Walker carries a curated selection of Kerastase products and a new line, Inphenom (which, she says, her clients are crazy about), and each look Kiefer creates is finished with a choice of six Byredo hair perfumes (Mojave Ghost and Gypsy Water are favorites). But here’s a tip: Book your appointment in advance. “While I try to accommodate most walk-ins,” she notes, “I really like my clients to have set aside time for the salon experience.” Prices vary
