Back to Black

Some 550 fashionable ladies and gents donned their finest gowns and tuxes, and gathered at the Hyatt Regency Surf City for CASA’s Celebration of Children Black & White Ball. Stilt-walkers performed among notables Nancy and Richard Eaton, and Daryl Nelson while they enjoyed a silent auction and chatted with co-chairwomen Lourdes Nark, Cathy Frandsen and Jeanina Esparza. Emcee and news anchor Christine Devine kept things fun during the main program, which included a gourmet feast—the butterscotch pot de creme was too good—entertainment and a live auction with prizes like a Damiani diamond necklace. One of the many highlights, however, came when Darnell Cates shared his experiences in the foster care system. It’s no wonder the night netted $600,000 to support the nonprofit’s efforts to train mentor-advocates to work with abused and neglected children.
