Athletes First Classic Gala and Golf Tournament

| May 10, 2017 | Parties

Good sports supported Orangewood Foundation at the Athletes First Classic Gala and Golf Tournament.

THE PARTY Athletes First President Brian Murphy said it best when he looked out at the crowd of 800 celebs, football pros and philanthropists gathered in the ballroom at the Monarch Beach Resort and stated, “Give, give and give, and when you need to take, the universe will provide.” It’s why the gala and golf event continues to be a winner for Orangewood Foundation’s programs for foster youth. THE GUESTS Sports stars like the Chicago Bears’ Mark Sanchez (a Mission Viejo H.S. alum) and the San Francisco 49ers’ Matt Barkley (a Newport Beach native) enjoyed the fun and games alongside celebs Brian Baumgartner (The Office) and Rebecca Rittenhouse (The Mindy Project). And then there were the Golden Heart honorees: auto exec David Wilson and wife Holly (they’ve been known to do last-minute good deeds—in formalwear) and NFL Hall of Famer, role model and cancer survivor Jim Kelly, who is in remission. THE HIGHLIGHTS The live auction lust-have was (naturally) a private jet for 10 to any NFL game, which sold twice for $75,000 each. And the tourney the next day ended with a new tailgate party, allowing the givers to score once more. -Kristen Schott
