Artist Jennifer Guidi on Her First Solo Museum Exhibition at the Orange County Museum of Art

Showcasing vibrant hues and thought-provoking techniques, California artist Jennifer Guidi is headlining her first solo stateside museum exhibit at the Orange County Museum of Art.

Art has always been the most accessible form of self-expression, a way to peer into the heart of humanity. Los Angeles-based artist Jennifer Guidi is looking to do just that in And so it is., her first solo museum exhibition in the United States, now on display at the Orange County Museum of Art. Open through Jan. 7, the exhibit takes viewers through Guidi’s colorful canvases and sculptures.
“It is an honor to present Jennifer Guidi’s first solo museum exhibition in the United States,” shares Heidi Zuckerman, OCMA’s CEO and director, who curated the exhibition. “And so it is. is an opportunity to explore the complexity and depth of this artist’s body of work, one that is profoundly layered both in paint and meaning. It is a revelation to see how her work builds on the practices of artists like Agnes Martin, Georgia O’Keefe and Agnes Pelton, drawing inspiration from a deep engagement with the world and offering us as viewers the opportunity for spiritual reverie.”

Reach enlightenment as you explore Guidi’s layered paintings, uniquely textured by creating divots in a thick wet layer of sand with a dowel, that span six parts of her practice—including sand and universe mandalas, landscapes, shapes, drawings and sculptures. Featured works date back to 2013 and also include her stunning new outdoor sculpture “Kundalini Rising,” a colorful serpent displayed outside of OCMA, the artist’s largest sculpture to date. Inside OCMA, art lovers will discover significant new sand and acrylic paintings on display for the first time—painting the town, indeed.
