Up, Up and Away!

It’s safe to say that the 440 local notables who gathered for The Shea Center’s annual ball at the Montage Laguna Beach are superheroes. They helped raise more than $700,000 for the organization’s therapeutic horse-related programs. Themed Sheazaam: Celebrating the Superhero Within (natch), the evening began with a reception on the oceanfront lawn, where attendees sipped cocktails and nibbled on apps while taking in the view—and the jaw-dropping entertainment from Cirque du Soleil-inspired performers and painted stiltwalkers. They then moved into the ballroom for the main event—a gourmet dinner, a riveting auction with an array of prizes (including the crowd-pleaser, a cavalier King Charles spaniel puppy) and an award ceremony. Gala chairwomen Julie Frost and Amber Offield honored Monsignor Arthur Holquin, a client and ambassador of the nonprofit; and Jim Washburn, a mentor and longtime volunteer with the center. Truly powerful. –Photos by Brian Carter of Pixel That! Photography
