Affair of the Art

| April 2, 2012 | Parties National

It was party time at the Laguna Art Museum when a record 584 guests showed up to bid on works by more than 100 top California talents, including Tony DeLap and Joe Goode. But this was no regular auction. Organizers of the annual event transformed the venue into a glam art lounge to showcase those creations. Jim Nye led the live auction with help from LAM’s new Executive Director Malcolm Warner and Curator of Exhibitions Grace Kook-Anderson. Competitive bidding fueled a record gross tally of $182,000. But it wasn’t just about the art. Guests also sampled cuisine and libations from local restaurants, while mingling with 47 of the participating artists. Adding to the evening’s entertainment: Four young stars created astonishing works from scratch. Following the auction, the museum hosted an after-party, complete with desserts and dancing.
