5 Must-Try Tastes

Hungry? Take a bite from any of these five tantalizing plates.

1. Great Maple
Want to really splurge? The Sunday brunch at this Fashion Island spot has maple bacon doughnuts ($10) to satisfy cravings. Yes, everything’s better with a slab of the good stuff.

2. Il Dolce
The fig and prosciutto di Parma wood-fired pizza ($22) at the Costa Mesa eatery fills bellies with ricotta, fruit and prosciutto for a layered round of creamy, sweet and salty.

3. Pie Not
Head to this 17th Street hang (which also has a shop at Pacific City’s Lot 579) for not-so-traditional hand pies like the Daisy & Babe sausage roll ($4.50). Ground beef and pork, carrots, onions, sharp cheddar and bacon will take you for a spin.

4. Sol Cocina
The Spanish grilled octopus ($13.50) has fingerlings, garlic, chorizo and smoked paprika. A margarita makes a perfect pairing.

5. True Food Kitchen
A healthy dose is on the table with the Fashion Island restaurant’s seasonal ingredient salad ($14.50) stocked with veggies, pistachios and manchego.
